Rail ballast is the layer of crushed stones placed beneath and around railroad tracks, primarily made from durable rocks like granite or basalt. Its main functions are to provide support and stability to the tracks, ensure proper drainage to prevent waterlogging, absorb vibrations from passing trains and control weed growth.

Armour rock is large, durable stone used primarily for erosion control and shoreline stabilisation. These heavy, angular rocks are placed along shorelines, riverbanks and around structures like bridge abutments and seawalls to prevent soil erosion and withstand the impact of water flow and wave action. It is also commonly called rip rap.

Gabion rocks are stones used to fill wire mesh baskets or boxes known as gabions. Gabions are used in various civil engineering projects for their durability and versatility. Gabion walls are effective retaining structures, preventing soil erosion and providing landscape stability. They’re also used for sound barriers along highways, riverbank protection, coastal erosion control and landscaping features.

Spalls are broken fragments of rock, concrete or other materials. They can be used decoratively in landscaping. They’re a cost-effective alternative for certain projects, such as fill material or in drainage systems. Additionally, spalls matching the original material can be used for repairs and restoring damaged surfaces.

Our specialty rock comes from our own quarry, Hunter Blue Metal, and from partner quarries across the Hunter Valley. Holding stock across more than one quarry is why we can generally turn around next-day delivery on standard product.
